Porto Cervo, in pink granite and sea air.

A considered guide to the Costa Smeralda — Piazzetta mornings under white-washed arches, an afternoon between the Maddalena and Spiaggia del Principe, and the long Sardinian evening between Cipriani and Quattro Passi that the Costa has quietly made its own.

A stylish couple in evening attire walking along the marina of Porto Cervo at golden hour with white-washed Costa Smeralda architecture, a large luxury yacht moored in the turquoise water and warm Mediterranean lamplight

Marina · Piazzetta · Cala di Volpe

A small port that keeps its hours in white walls and turquoise water.

A Note on the Costa

Porto Cervo rewards those who keep close to the water.

The Costa Smeralda is small, granite-edged, and quietly demanding — the Piazzetta at the heart, the marina below, the Maddalena on the horizon, and the long evening between Cipriani and Quattro Passi that the Costa has quietly kept to itself for generations.

What follows is a short, edited guide — four daytime moments, then two of each for the evening. Enough for a long weekend, or the start of something worth returning for.

V · Hotels

A room worth returning to.

A good hotel does the quiet work — a smile at the door, a key already cut, a view that earns its place in the morning. These two do it best on the Costa.

The Detail
A negroni brought up before you ask for it.
The Hour

VI · A Sketched Itinerary

One day, lightly drawn.

Not a schedule — a suggestion. Move with the light, the granite, and the company you keep.

  1. 10:00

    Coffee on the Piazzetta

Start at one of the marble-countered cafés on the Piazzetta — an espresso, a slow watch of the white-washed walls catching the morning light. The day asks for nothing yet.

  2. 12:00

A morning Riva to the Maddalena

Down to the marina for a mahogany Riva around the archipelago — pink granite running by, a swim off Caprera, lunch dropped from the deck. The most quietly Sardinian of mornings.

  3. 16:00

    Spiaggia del Principe

An afternoon at the Aga Khan's crescent — pink granite, white sand, turquoise water. Back to the hotel for the slow change as the cliff catches the late gold.

  4. 18:30

    An aperitivo at Il Portico

An hour at the marble counter on the Piazzetta — an Aperol spritz in hand, the lamps coming on under the arches. The European hour, slowly.

  5. 20:30

    Dinner

Cipriani for the considered Venetian evening on the marina, or Quattro Passi for the long romantic dinner under the bougainvillea on the old port. Both deserve the early reservation.

  6. 23:30

    If the night insists

Zamira Lounge for the classical second round at the marina, then — if the night truly insists — Billionaire for the long Sardinian hour or Just Me for the upscale close. The Maddalena will keep.

A Closing Thought

"On the Costa Smeralda the evening is unhurried, the company chosen, and Porto Cervo is at its best for those who keep close to the water."
