The capital is small, vertical and quietly grand — the old town on its plateau, the Grund in the gorge below, the casemates carved into the cliff and the Moselle vineyards a short drive east. Down to the Grund for a considered lunch by the Alzette — an hour at a quiet table, a glass of Moselle Riesling, the gorge walls above.

An afternoon along the Bock Casemates for the long view, then a slow turn along the Chemin de la Corniche as the light softens.

An hour at the classical bar — a Manhattan in hand, mahogany and brass around. The European hour, slowly, exactly as Luxembourg keeps it.

Mosconi for the considered Italian evening on the Alzette, or a long second sitting at La Cristallerie for the Belle Époque close. Both deserve the early reservation.

Le Sud rooftop for one last drink with the old-town view, then — if the night truly insists — Melusina for the upscale close or Byblos for the long, slow late hour. The Alzette will keep.
