Saint-Tropez, in Pampelonne sun and harbour quiet.

A considered guide to the most storied village on the Côte d'Azur — the old port at first light, an afternoon on Pampelonne, and the long Riviera evening between White 1921, La Vague d'Or and a suite at Cheval Blanc that the village has quietly kept its own.

An elegant couple in evening attire walking along the old port of Saint-Tropez at golden hour with pastel ochre and pink Provençal facades, white yachts moored along the quay, palm trees and the Mediterranean

Vieux Port · Pampelonne · Citadelle

A village of the Riviera that keeps her hours in pastel light, pine shadow and sea air.

A Note on the Village

Saint-Tropez rewards those who keep close to the bay.

The village is small, horizontal and quietly grand — the old port curving along the quay, the Place des Lices behind, the Citadelle above and the long crescent of Pampelonne a short drive south. The long Riviera evening between Les Caves du Roy and Cheval Blanc is an inheritance the village has quietly kept since the sixties.

What follows is a short, edited guide — four daytime moments, then two of each for the evening. Enough for a long weekend, or the start of something worth returning for.

VI · A Sketched Itinerary

One day, lightly drawn.

Not a schedule — a suggestion. Move with the light, the bay, and the company you keep.

  1. 10:00

    Coffee on the Quai Suffren

Start at one of the marble-countered cafés along the old port — an espresso, a slow watch of the yachts and the pastel facades. The day asks for nothing yet.

  2. 13:00

A long lunch at Club 55

Out to Pampelonne for the iconic beach lunch — the blue and white striped tablecloths, a plate of salade Niçoise, a glass of Côtes de Provence rosé, an hour at a quiet table beneath the pines.

  3. 17:00

    Pampelonne & the Citadelle

An afternoon walking the long beach, then back through the old town and up to the Citadelle for the long view across the bay as the lamps come on.

  4. 19:00

An aperitif on Place des Lices

An hour at White 1921 — a flute of champagne in hand, plane trees overhead, the village settling around. The European hour, slowly, exactly as Saint-Tropez keeps it.

  5. 20:30

    Dinner

La Vague d'Or for the considered three-star evening on the bay, or a long second sitting at Le Bar du Port for the harbour-side close. Both deserve the early reservation.

  6. 23:30

    If the night insists

A nightcap on the way to Les Caves du Roy at the Byblos for the iconic close, or — if the night truly insists — VIP Room for the upscale one. The village will keep.

A Closing Thought

"In Saint-Tropez the evening is unhurried, the company chosen, and the village is at its best for those who keep close to the bay."
